Jim McCune

Executive Director, Craft Beverage Marketing

Nickname

Jimmy Wu

Before joining EGC, where did you work…

The past 17 years prior, I worked for a New York sports–entertainment marketing agency. We helped build some exciting brands like UFC, WWE, Playboy, Universal Studios and even Pee-wee Herman. I’m also Blue Point Brewing Company’s exclusive brand designer and a professor of visual arts.

Sum up your marketing philosophy in 50 words or less

I’m very selective with the clients I choose to work with. The brands I gravitate towards align with my own personality and beliefs. So my branding philosophy is typically iconoclastic to rise above sheeplike mediocrity. Every move I make is based on research, there’s no guess work – only strategy.

Do you like movies about gladiators?

Of course. Are there people who don’t?

How do you delight clients every day?

By being customer-centric and going above and beyond on every task.

How much of your life is spent online?

The simpler question is when am I not online? When I’m sleeping.

Are you a good cook? More important, does anyone else think you're a good cook?

Unless you count nuking pizza bagels, I've never once cooked a meal in my life.

Happy Hour. True or false?

You’re asking me this question? I run the craft beer division here, I’m drinking a beer right now as you’re interviewing me.

What is your favorite quote?

“A rising tide lifts all boats.”

What's your favorite technique for generating ideas?

Nothing works better for me than just sketching it out. I like to start on a really small pieces of paper, it’s so intimate. I also like to find everything that doesn’t work first, so when I get to what does work - I can really own it.
